The Deep Dark

The Deep Dark brings dungeon crawling to Myth. It is an exiting new way to play and combines exploration with the typical Myth combat. Heroes will explore vast ruins, overcome perilous events, face deadly monsters and hopefully make it out alive with some treasure. You can play The Deep Dark standalone or seamlessly integrate it with the continuous campaign mod Lands of Myth.

How to play

  1. SELECT YOUR HEROES - to start your journey into The Deep Dark just pick your group of heroes and choose a dungeon to explore!
  2. SELECT A QUEST - each dungeon comes with a set of special dungeon quests you can try to accomplish. Before venturing into a dungeon you have to select a quest and follow the setup instructions.
  3. EXPLORE THE DUNGEON - The dungeon itself is represented by a dedicated deck of cards, giving a birds-eye view of your surroundings. Step by step your group of heroes will move through monster infested tunnels, constantly having to overcome perilious events and desperately trying to finish your chosen quest. If you play a Lands of Myth campaing, these dungeons will seamlessly integrate into the regions your are playing.

Dungeons

This is how one level of a certain dungeon could look like. It is built semi-randomly based on the played Dungeon Quest and built when the heroes explore it using special Dungeon Cards. Every time the heroes venture into a dungeon it's layout and the dangers awaiting will be different. Heroes will have to overcome various Dungeon Events or encounter dangerous Environmental Effects. There will be battles to fight (using the already existing Myth tiles) and special monster will populate the dreaded halls of a dungeon.

Location Cards

These special 7x7cm (2.75x2.75 inch) cards give a bird’s eye view on the dungeon the heroes are exploring. At the beginning of a dungeon quest a deck of these cards is prepared and shuffled – you will not know how the dungeon looks like until you explore it! In addition these cards have various symbols on them, requiring the heroes to overcome perilous events.

Event Cards

Event Cards

These cards are drawn based on the Location Card symbols and provide special challenges to the heroes, often requiring them to perform Attribute Tests. Other events are more random in nature and a few of them may even have benefits for the heroes.

Environment Effect Cards

Environment Effect Cards

Location Cards may show one or several effects that represent smaller annoyances or sometimes positive things that heroes can encounter. These are not represented by an individual Event card, instead they are described on the Environment Effect card of that dungeon.

New Monsters

New Monsters

New and dangerous monsters will make short work of any unprepared group of heroes. While I recommend what miniatures could be used I've also provided tokens for these new monsters.
